I didn't consider that any of my backups would need around 15 Gigabytes of space to be restored on to the HD. One final note, the reason I need this is that I bought a 2020 iMac with a flash drive of only 500 MB. I'm not sure where to turn and I will appreciate your thoughts on this. I suppose each time you add the TM backup it copies it on the disk erasing what is there. But when I tried to add a TM backup to it, it wasn't bootable. I used Terminal for the first time and was pleasantly surprised I was able to make a Monterey boot disk doing this. Now that we are in Monterey, and both Super Duper and CC Cloner have newer versions and features I'm having a lot of trouble doing this. There is a thread that is closed that addresses that need but discussions are referring to older OS. ( Or how to make an external drive your boot disk with the files from a time machine backup). I have the question about making time machine restores bootable. What are some ideas, please, about how to run a backup and save it to my external drive or to the cloud? I’d appreciate some advice. I seem to have lost the ability to save documents as PDFs, which will be the topic of another question but which points to the problems with not running updates as they become available. The cost of a new Mac would be too much right now. I’m afraid of upgrading to Ventura because I’m doubtful my old machine will be able to handle it. I have often tried to rename the external drive, but my attempted backups still fail. I get a message telling me the backup failed because my two hard disks are named the same thing (but they actually have different names). I also have a Seagate 1 T drive that I use for backups, but ever since I began using that SSD for my operating system, I’ve been unable to save any backups. With the help of the community I resolved the issue by purchasing a 1 T G-Drive SSD and installing the operating system on it, leaving it attached at all times. Almost a year ago my 2018 desktop Mac was very slow after I upgraded to Monterey.
